I remembered Leigh’s little chuckle when we hit a muddy puddle or the determined look on his face when he faced a rough surface to cross. I realized that while Leigh was no longer here, other children like him would relate to these adventures, and Leigh's spirit could still lead the way for others.

I found that as I wrote his biography, the act of putting pen to paper was like a conversation with him. It didn't take the pain away, but it gave the pain a purpose. It allowed me to process his passing by first celebrating his "living."
